north london people's orchestra

NLPO (North London People's Orchestra) is a full-scale, symphony orchestra launched in May 2011 and aimed at learner and developing players of all ages and experience.

Membership of NLPO is open to all. There are no auditions and no minimum required standard. Rather, we work with professional instrumental coaches to develop players from where they are currently at.

We've already given our first concert, a wonderful performance evening of popular classics with a 50-piece orchestra on the evening of 10 November 2011 at our rehearsal base, Oakwood Baptist Church, Merrivale, Southgate, London N14 4TE.

Our Conductor is Chris Bearman BMus (Hons) from Guildhall School of Music. Chris is supported by our team of professional strings, woodwind and brass coaches.

NLPO rehearsals are on Thursday evenings between 7.45pm and 9.45pm. Everything is provided, all you need is your instrument and a music stand. Modest subs apply to cover professional coaching, refreshments, materials, equipment and general overheads.

Rehearsals are scheduled in blocks of approx ten sessions per calendar Quarter, usually featuring a performance event. Our next concert is on the evening of Thursday 29 March 2012.

This is our current line-up. If your instrument already appears to be covered, don't despair, contact us anyway as some of our players can only make occasional rehearsals and concerts and, in any case, we run a comprehensive programme including our Wednesday-night Concert Band and our Friday-night Jazz Orchestra, for which there are still plenty of vacancies on some instruments.
